Founder of The Career Gem, a full-service career coaching business, Yanira Guzmán, has over 15 years of guiding others to achieve their career aspirations. As a first-generation college graduate, she helps committed Latinos, Latinas, and Latinx position themselves for their next career role, resulting in increased income benefiting themselves, their families, and their communities.
Yanira has a background in nonprofit leadership development, software implementation and customer-training for a top 50 Forbes tech company, complemented by 8+ years of teaching in California’s public elementary schools, in both urban and affluent school districts as a Spanish bilingual teacher and literacy coach.
Well-versed in the high tech and nonprofit industries, she provides her clients with an unparalleled experience in crafting personalized resumes, cover letters, and additional professional development services throughout their career lifecycle.
A sought-after speaker, Yanira has spoken and conducted career preparation workshops for We All Grow Amigas, University of Phoenix, NASA Intern program, Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, as well as nonprofit organizations on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Most recently, she ran a successful political campaign for her local school district and was elected as a Board Trustee for Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District in November 2020. She also sat as an Advisory Board Member for Techqueria, a nonprofit that serves the largest global community of Latinx professionals in tech.
When she is not working, she co-leads Latinas of the Bay Area, a professional and social network for 400+ Latina women as well as finds any opportunity to be silly and have dance offs with her children.
She has consulted in North America and Latin America (Perú and México) educational technology sector. She holds an M.A. in Education from San Francisco State University, and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. She currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family.
